Catalytic antibodies, also known as abzymes, are a unique class of antibodies that not only bind to their target antigen but also possess enzyme-like catalytic activity. In other words, they can accelerate specific chemical reactions, similar to the way enzymes do. Catalytic antibodies are a rare and naturally occurring phenomenon, but they can also be artificially generated using techniques such as immunization with transition-state analogs or phage display.
