About Haroldo Silva

Haroldo Silva earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry from Florida International University (FIU). Haroldo’s undergraduate research focused on mathematical modeling of cardiovascular medical devices and blood vessels. After learning how cardiovascular disease is just one of the many ailments caused by aging, and that stem cell therapies could potentially cure many age-related diseases, Haroldo’s doctoral work focused on muscle stem cell aging and differentiation at UC Berkeley. While at UC Berkeley, Haroldo attended a seminar on campus by Aubrey de Grey on the SENS approach to combating the diseases and disabilities of aging, which drew him to the SENS Research Foundation. Since 2013, Haroldo had led the OncoSENS team on our project aimed at treating and preventing cancers that grow by relying specifically on the telomerase-independent Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) mechanism.
