About Us

Accelerating Technologies To Overcome Age-Related Disease and Extend Healthy Human Lifespan

Strategically driving forward projects with outsized tactical value to the field of aging research.

Our Mission

Lifespan Research Institute (“LRI”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on the defeat of age-related disease and the extension of healthy human lifespan – through raising funds and awareness for scientific work addressing the root causes of the aging process, building a thriving ecosystem of mission aligned stakeholders which can be mobilized to strategic action, and spearheading relevant research projects directly. We work to identify, develop, and promote initiatives with outsized impact and the greatest potential to realize widespread access to regenerative medicine solutions targeting the disabilities and diseases of aging.

We conduct targeted scientific research with the explicit goal of accelerating the development of therapies that address the root causes of aging.

Our educational programs offer several options for students interested in engaging with our mission of preventing age-related diseases.

Through our investor network, we catalyze private investment in biotechnology companies developing interventions that target the root mechanisms of aging.

We make the ground fertile for the entire field through advocacy initiatives that foster societal change, increasing available public and private funding for aging research.

Our History

Lifespan Research Institute is the result of the 2024 merger between the SENS Research Foundation (SRF) and the Lifespan Extension Advocacy Foundation (LEAF). The SENS Research Foundation was established in 2009 by Aubrey de Grey, Jeff Hall, Michael Kope, Sarah Marr, and Kevin Perrott, and focused on the research paradigm of “Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence” as detailed in the 2007 book Ending Aging by Dr. Aubrey de Grey, together with co-author Michael Rae. The Lifespan Extension Advocacy Foundation was established in 2014 by Keith Comito, Oliver Medvedik, Apneet Jolly, and Richard Kaufman to raise funding and awareness for research aimed at extending healthy human lifespan, through a variety of public advocacy and outreach initiatives such as news generation, crowdfunding, and far-reaching media initiatives.

Now, Lifespan Research Institute is combining its deep history of groundbreaking research and advocacy to create a true bridge across the funding valley of death, supporting the best aging-related scientific projects in the field no matter where they are in the developmental pipeline – and driving them forward with the aim of getting actual therapies into the hands of the public as soon as possible. By bringing together our rich network of allies and the best minds in the field we will identify and drive forward research projects of maximum strategic value, and pair this with our unique ability to advocate for this work –  and the field in general –  to make overcoming the diseases of aging the societal priority it truly deserves to be.
