Biotechnology Startup Workshop

Alongside our Ending Age-related Diseases 2019 annual conference, we are proud to announce the launch of a special pre-conference biotech workshop led by Dr. Kelsey Moody, CEO of Ichor Therapeutics, a successful and rapidly growing rejuvenation biotechnology company.

This joint event between the Lifespan Extension Advocacy Foundation and Ichor Therapeutics is an essential workshop where you will learn about the fundamentals of launching and growing a successful biotechnology company with an emphasis on the nuances specific to the emerging rejuvenation biotechnology industry.

The global population is aging rapidly, and the resulting increase in morbidity from chronic age-related diseases represents a challenge to our society. The latest findings in aging research indicate that addressing the root mechanisms of aging as therapeutic targets might lead to treatments that postpone or prevent age-related diseases, thus extending the healthy period of life. However, much work has yet to be done to take these findings from the lab to clinical practice.

Rejuvenation biotechnology holds huge potential, but it is clearly facing unique financial, development, and regulatory bottlenecks, making it hard for young companies in this sector to take off.

In this workshop, you will learn the core principles of creating and launching a resilient business of your own. In two information-dense 1.5-hour sessions, the participants will discuss:

  • Competitive advantages when developing drugs that address the underlying mechanisms of aging
  • Constructing physical facilities on a start-up budget
  • Corporate structuring considerations
  • The need for quality initiatives in aging as an emerging industry sector
  • Optimizing R&D processes in a blended discovery/development environment
  • Fundraising: start-up vs. growth-stage companies

Join us for this interactive event to get practical insights into the development of a mission-driven, sustainable, and productive company in the rejuvenation field.

Dr. Kelsey Moody is a process-oriented biotechnology executive who has specialized in the study of aging and aging mechanisms for over a decade. Since 2013, he has successfully built Ichor Therapeutics from a living room start-up into a premier, vertically integrated contract research organization that focuses on pre-clinical research services for aging pathways. Proceeds from this work are used to self-fund R&D initiatives that constitute Ichor’s portfolio companies in enzyme therapy (Lysoclear, Inc.), small molecule drug discovery (Antoxerene, Inc.), and protein engineering (RecombiPure, Inc.) Kelsey has received graduate-level training in medicine, business, and laboratory research.
